Letter to the Editor

Dear Editor

'Corporate responsibility and human rights' was the topic in your February 2002 issue. I knew you people had a well-developed sense of humour and fun. Here was proof positive.

I tried not to smile at the conjunction of the words 'corporate' and 'responsibility', and diligently tried to read all the articles. I got lost in the references to TNCs, MNCs, and (you are pulling our legs, aren't you?), TOES. Yes, TOES . According to your esteemed author Mr Birch, TOES stands for 'The Other Economic Summit' (p.4). Ho ho.

Professor Redmond came to the res cue in his article. He steadfastly avoided the temptation to initialise the 'Global Sullivan Principles of Social Responsibility'. I was more than heartened to read: 'The Global Sullivan Principles have been endorsed by several TNCs, NGOs and other non-profit organisations, mostly in the US'(p.25).

The Global Sullivan Principles! Thank you Professor Redmond and the Alt.LJ for tickling my toes. Satire is not dead.

Gary Sullivan
