EDITORIAL

In this issue of the journal we begin with two articles which examine privacy issues associated with the transmission of personal information. Greg Tucker considers the problems connected with the international transfer of personal information, outlining the protection for transnational flows of data sent to or from Australia, while Indira Carr and Katherine Williams look closely at the problems associated with the harmonisation of laws within the European Union and how that is of concern with respect to the protection of data.

Rick Sarre then evaluates some models on criminal justice initiatives followed by Scott Taylor looking at the use of technology within the legal profession. Peter Jones and Rick Snell continue this theme with an examination of the problems of developing computer assisted learning within the restraints of a small law school.

The final two articles, one by Marcus Breen, the second by Alicia Duigan, continue from the last edition by considering further problems associated with copyright.

Conference reports are from Dan Hunter, Michael Baum and Anne Fitzgerald. Dan Hunter considers the Fourth International Conference on Artificial Intelligence and Law, Michael Baum reports on the Worldwide Electronic Commerce conference held in New York and Anne Fitzgerald summarises the recent forum on Computer Law held in Melbourne.

This issue of the journal also contains a number of book reviews with emphasis placed on commercial law and advocacy. It should also be noted that in book review appearing in Volume 4, No 2 1993 on page 431, evaluating Meagher, Gummow and Lehane’s Equity Doctrine and Remedies, 3rd edition, the publisher was incorrectly attributed. Butterworths publishes this text.
