Privacy Law and Policy Reporter |
'The Expert Group recommends that the privacy of users of advanced networks be protected by developing a self-regulatory scheme for network participants within the framework of the Privacy Act' (p 67). In its three pages of comments on privacy issues, the BSEG identifies the priority of determining the appropriate structure for regulation, suggesting that the Information
Privacy Principles of the Privacy Act provide a guide for telecommunications privacy issues. In particular, the report highlights the importance of consultation, complaint procedures, public education and information, and ensuring that customers do not have to pay extra to protect their privacy.
