ELECTORAL ACT 1992 - SECT 41

Suggestions and comments about redistribution

    (1)     A redistribution committee must prepare a written notice stating—

        (a)     that written suggestions about the redistribution of electorates may be given to it within 28 days after the day the notice is notified under the Legislation Act 2001

; and

        (b)     that written comments about the suggestions may be given to it within 14 days after the last day suggestions may be given to it; and

        (c)     each place where suggestions may be inspected by members of the public.

    (2)     The notice is a notifiable instrument.

Note      A notifiable instrument must be notified under the Legislation Act 2001

.

    (3)     The redistribution committee must give additional public notice of the notice mentioned in subsection (1).

Note     Public notice means notice on an ACT government website or in a daily newspaper circulating in the ACT (see Legislation Act

, dict, pt 1). The requirement in s (3) is in addition to the requirement for notification on the legislation register as a notifiable instrument.

    (4)     The redistribution committee must ensure that copies of any suggestions given to it in accordance with the notice are available for inspection by members of the public in accordance with the notice.
