(1) This section applies if—
(a) a person is applying for registration as a foreign lawyer under this Act; and
(b) a show-cause event in relation to the person happened after the person first became an overseas-registered foreign lawyer.
(2) As part of the application, the person must give the relevant council a written statement, in accordance with the regulations—
(a) about the show-cause event; and
(b) explaining why, despite the show-cause event, the applicant considers themself to be a fit and proper person to be a locally-registered foreign lawyer.
(3) However, the person need not give the relevant council a statement under subsection (2) if the person has previously given to the relevant council a statement under this section, or a notice and statement under section 183, explaining why, despite the show-cause event, the person considers themself to be a fit and proper person to be a locally-registered foreign lawyer.
(4) This section applies to a show-cause event whether the event happened before or happens after the commencement of this section.
