LEGAL PROFESSION ACT 2006 - SECT 183

Locally-registered foreign lawyer—show-cause event

    (1)     This section applies to a show-cause event that happens in relation to a locally-registered foreign lawyer.

    (2)     The locally-registered foreign lawyer must give the relevant council both of the following:

        (a)     not later than 7 days after the day the event happened, a written notice that the event happened;

Note     If a form is approved by the relevant council under s 587 for this provision, the form must be used.

        (b)     not later than 28 days after the day the event happened, a written statement explaining why, despite the show-cause event, the person considers themself to be a fit and proper person to be a locally-registered foreign lawyer.

    (3)     If a written statement is given to the relevant council after the end of the 28-day period, the relevant council may accept the statement and take it into consideration.
