LEGAL PROFESSION ACT 2006 - SECT 191

Return of local registration certificate

    (1)     This section applies if a person's registration under this part as a foreign lawyer is amended, suspended or cancelled.

    (2)     The relevant council may give the person a written notice requiring the person to return the person's local registration certificate to the relevant council in the way (if any) stated in the notice within a stated period of not less than 14 days after the day the person is given the notice.

    (3)     The person must comply with the notice.

Maximum penalty: 50 penalty units.

    (4)     An offence against this section is a strict liability offence.

    (5)     The relevant council must return the person's local registration certificate to the person—

        (a)     if the certificate is amended—after amending it; or

        (b)     if the registration is suspended and is still current at the end of the suspension period—at the end of the suspension period.
