AUSTRALIAN HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION ACT 1986 - SECT 37

Terms and conditions of appointment

  (1)   Subject to subsection   (2) or (3), an appointed member holds office for such period as is specified in the instrument of the member's appointment, but is eligible for re - appointment.

  (2)   A person must not be appointed as the President under section   8A for a period if the sum of the following exceeds 7 years:

  (a)   that period;

  (b)   any periods of previous appointment of the person as the President under that section.

  (3)   A person must not be appointed as the Human Rights Commissioner under section   8B for a period if the sum of the following exceeds 7 years:

  (a)   that period;

  (b)   any periods of previous appointment of the person as the Human Rights Commissioner under that section.

  (4)   An appointed member, other than a member who is a Judge, holds office on such terms and conditions (if any) in respect of matters not provided for by this Act as are determined by the Governor - General.
