Commonwealth Numbered Acts Commonwealth Numbered Acts(1) A person must not do an act, or omit to do an act, if the act or omission results, or is likely to result, in the defacement or obliteration of a mark on:
(a) a wreck of, or wreck from, a regulated Australian vessel situated:
(i) in the exclusive economic zone of Australia; or
(ii) in the territorial sea of Australia; or
(b) a wreck of, or wreck from, a foreign vessel situated in the territorial sea of Australia.
Fault-based offence
(2) A person commits an offence if the person contravenes subsection (1).
Penalty: 300 penalty units.
Civil penalty
(3) A person is liable to a civil penalty if the person contravenes subsection (1).
Civil penalty: 900 penalty units.
