Wool Research and Development Corporation Regulations (Repeal)

The Primary Industries and Energy Research and Development Act 1989 (PIERD Act) provides for the undertaking of research and development relating to primary industries, energy and natural resources, and for related purposes.

The objects of the PIERD Act are to make provision for the funding and administration of research and development relating to primary industries. In 1991 amendments to the PIERD Act provided. for the establishment of the Wool Research and Development Corporation (WRDC).

With the creation of the Australian Wool Research and Promotion Organisation in 1993 under the Australian Wool Research and Promotion Organisation Act 1993, the WRDC was abolished. At that time, consequential amendments were made to the PIERD Act to reflect this abolition by removing references to wool.

While these consequential amendments to the PIERD Act removed the head of power for the establishment of the WRDC, the Wool Research and Development Corporation Regulations (WRDC Regulations) made under that head of power nonetheless remained in place.

The WRDC Regulations (Repeal) complete the administrative requirements associated with the 1993 abolition of the WRDC.

Regulation 1 repeals the WRDC Regulations which have continued in existence under the PIERD Act.
