GUARDIANSHIP ACT 1987 - SECT 20
Alternative guardians
(1) A continuing guardianship order (other than an order appointing the
Public Guardian as a guardian) may appoint a person to be an alternative
guardian of the person under guardianship.
(1A) Subsection (1) applies even
if 2 or more persons are appointed (either jointly or separately, as referred
to in section 16 (3)) guardians of the person concerned. However, if 2 or more
guardians of a person are appointed separately (each having different
functions), the guardianship order or orders concerned may appoint persons to
be the alternative guardians of the person under guardianship in respect of
those different functions.
(2) During the absence or incapacity of a guardian
of a person under guardianship, the person's alternative guardian for the
absent or incapacitated guardian has the functions of that guardian.
