UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND ACT 1993 - SECT 3
Definitions
(1) In this Act--
"commercial functions" of the University means the commercial functions
described in section 6 (3) (a).
"Council" means the Council of the University.
"University" means the University of New England established by this Act. Note
: The Interpretation Act 1987 contains definitions and other provisions that
affect the interpretation and application of this Act.
(2) In this Act, a
reference to a graduate of the University is a reference to a person who is
the recipient of a degree or diploma, or of such other award or certificate as
may be prescribed by the by-laws, conferred or awarded by or on behalf of--
(a) the University, or
(b) any former institution that is currently a part of
the University (having become a part of the University or any predecessor of
the University pursuant to the Higher Education (Amalgamation) Act 1989 or
otherwise), or
(c) any predecessor of the University or of any institution
referred to in paragraph (b).
(3) Former institutions that became a part of
the University or a predecessor of the University (such as the Northern Rivers
College of Advanced Education and the Orange Agricultural College) are not
considered to be predecessors of the University for the purposes of subsection
(2) (c) or section 14 (2).
(4) In this Act-- (a) a reference to a function
includes a reference to a power, authority and duty, and
(b) a reference to
the exercise of a function includes, where the function is a duty, a reference
to the performance of the duty.
(5) Notes included in this Act do not form
part of this Act.
