Inmates to be notified of rights and obligations
5 Inmates to be notified of rights and obligations
As soon as practicable after an inmate is first received into a correctional
centre, the governor must ensure the inmate is informed of the following-- (a)
the correctional centre rules (that is, the terms of any general directions
given under Part 2 of the Act or under Parts 2-9 of this Regulation),
(b) the
inmate's obligations relating to discipline and conduct,
(c) the inmate's
rights of legal representation and appeal in relation to proceedings under
this Regulation,
(d) the case management process,
(e) the authorised methods
of seeking information and making complaints,
(f) the role of an Official
Visitor,
(g) the functions of the Review Council in relation to the
segregation and protective custody of inmates,
(h) any other matter necessary
to enable the inmate to understand the inmate's rights and obligations and
adapt to living in the centre.
