15 Change of name by registration

(1) A person’s name may be changed by registration of the change under this part, unless the change has been registered under a corresponding law.

(2) A change of name includes the addition of a name.

(3) It is no longer possible in Queensland to change a person’s name by deed poll.

(4) However, this part does not prevent the change of a person’s name by repute or usage.

(5) Also—

(a) changes to a person’s name under a parentage order or discharge order are not dealt with under this part but under sections 41D and 41E ; and

(b) changes to a person’s name under a cultural recognition order or the discharge of a cultural recognition order are not dealt with under this part but under sections 41DA and 41DB .
