Limit on number of name changes
21 Limit on number of name changes
(1) An application to register the change of a person’s name may be made
(a) for the change of a child’s first names—once before the child
reaches 18 years; or
(b) otherwise—once in every 1-year period.
However, subsection (1) does not apply if a Magistrates Court has, because of
exceptional circumstances, approved the change of name.
Example of exceptional

application under subsection (1) (a) may be made in addition to an
application under section 13 .
(4) For subsection (1) (b) , the 1-year
period runs from when the person’s change of name was registered under this
Act or under a corresponding law, whichever is later in time.
