CHILD PROTECTION (OFFENDER REPORTING AND OFFENDER PROHIBITION ORDER) ACT 2004 - SECT 28
Receipt of information to be acknowledged
28 Receipt of information to be acknowledged
(1) As soon as practicable after receiving a report under this part, the
police officer or other person receiving the report must acknowledge the
making of the report.
(2) The acknowledgement— (a) must be in writing; and
(b) must be given to the person who made the report; and
(c) must include—
(i) the date and time when, and the place where, the report was received; and
(ii) a copy of the information that was reported; and
(iii) a copy of the
record of any agreement made under subsection (4) .
(3) If a report is not
made in person, the police officer or other person who received the report
must as soon as practicable— (a) give the person making the report a unique
reference number; and
(b) record that number on the relevant
reportable offender’s file and on the acknowledgement.
(4) The police
commissioner may make an agreement with the reportable offender about the way
in which a reference number or acknowledgement required to be given by this
section may be given.
(5) The police commissioner must ensure— (a) that
there is a method of recording an agreement made under subsection (4) ; and
(b) that, except with the reportable offender’s written consent, a reference
number or acknowledgement required to be given by this section is given in
accordance with the agreement while the agreement remains in force.
(6) The
police commissioner must ensure that a copy of every acknowledgement is kept.
