TRANSPORT OPERATIONS (ROAD USE MANAGEMENT--ROAD RULES) REGULATION 2009 - REG 208A
Parallel parking in a road-related area (except in a median strip parking area)
208A Parallel parking in a road-related area (except in a median strip parking
area)
(1) A driver who parks in a road-related area (except in a median strip
parking area) must position the driver’s vehicle to face— (a) in the
direction of travel of vehicles in the marked lane or line of traffic next to
the part of the road-related area where the driver parks; or
(b) if there is
no traffic next to that part of the road-related area—in the direction in
which vehicles could lawfully travel in the road-related area; or
(c) if the
road-related area is an area that divides a road—either— (i) in the
direction of travel of vehicles in the marked lane or line of traffic to the
left of the driver; or
(ii) if there is no traffic to the left of the
driver—in the direction in which vehicles could lawfully travel on that part
of the road.
Penalty— Maximum penalty—20 penalty units.
(2)
Subsection (1) does not apply if signs or road markings indicate that angle
parking is required in the road-related area.
