TRANSPORT OPERATIONS (ROAD USE MANAGEMENT--ROAD RULES) REGULATION 2009 - REG 87
Giving way when moving from a side of a road or a median strip parking area
87 Giving way when moving from a side of a road or a median strip parking area
(1) A driver entering a marked lane, or a line of traffic, from the far left
or right side of a road must give way to any vehicle travelling in the lane or
line of traffic. Penalty— Maximum penalty—20 penalty units.
(2)
However, the driver of a bus does not have to give way to a vehicle if— (a)
the driver of the vehicle is required to give way to the bus under section 77
; and
(b) it is safe for the bus to enter the lane or line of traffic in
which the vehicle is driving.
(3) A driver turning from a median strip
parking area into a marked lane, or a line of traffic, must give way to any
vehicle travelling in the lane or line of traffic. Penalty— Maximum
penalty—20 penalty units.
(4) In this section—
"road" does not include a road-related area, but includes any shoulder of the
road.
