CLIMATE CHANGE (STATE ACTION) INTERIM TARGETS AMENDMENT BILL 2011 (Brought in by Cassandra Stanwell O'Connor MP) A BILL FOR An Act to amend the Climate Change (State Action) Act 2008, to set a stronger greenhouse gas emission reduction target for the year 2050, and an interim greenhouse gas emission reduction target for the year 2020. Be it enacted by his Excellency the Governor of Tasmania, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council and House of Assembly, in Parliament assembled, as follows: 1. Short title This Act may be cited as the Climate Change (State Action) Interim Targets Amendment Act 2011. 2. Commencement This Act commences on a day to be proclaimed. 3. Principal Act In this Act, the Climate Change (State Action) Act 2008 is referred to as the Principal Act. No. 36 of 2008 3

 


 

4. Part 2, Division 1: Heading amended Division 1 of Part 2 of the Principal Act is amended by omitting "Target" from the heading to that Division and substituting "Targets". 5. Section 5 substituted (The State's 2050 target) Section 5 of the Principal Act is repealed and the following section is substituted: 5. The State's 2050 target, and the State's 2020 interim target (1) The State's 2050 target under this Act is to, by no later than 31 December 2050, have net zero greenhouse gas emissions in Tasmania. (2) The State's 2020 target under this Act is to reduce, by 31 December 2020, greenhouse gas emissions in Tasmania to at least 40% below 1990 levels. 6. Section 7 amended (Greenhouse gas emission regulations) Section 7 of the Principle Act is amended by deleting subsection (1) (c). 4
