FIREARMS AMENDMENT (RAPID FIRE SHOTGUNS - COMMUNITY SAFETY) BILL 2015 (Brought in by the Greens Shadow Minister for Police and Emergency Management, Dr Rosalie Woodruff MP) A BILL FOR An Act to amend the Firearms Act 1996 Be it enacted by Her Excellency the Governor of Tasmania, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council and House of Assembly, in Parliament assembled, as follows: PART 1 - PRELIMINARY 1. Short title This Act may be cited as the Firearms Amendment (Rapid Fire Shotguns - Community Safety) Act 2015. 2. Commencement The provisions of this Act commence on a day or days to be proclaimed. 2

 


 

Firearms Amendment (Rapid Fire Shotguns - Community Safety) Act 2015 Act No. of s. 3 Part 2 - Firearms Act 1996 Amended PART 2 - FIREARMS ACT 1996 AMENDED 3. Principal Act In this Part, the Firearms Act 1996* is referred to as the Principal Act. 4. Section 3 amended (Interpretation) Section 3 of the Principal Act is amended by inserting the following definition after the definition of prohibited pistol: rapid fire shotgun means a pump or lever action shotgun, or any other shotgun that uses a mechanism that enables spent ammunition to be ejected and fresh ammunition chambered from a magazine in rapid succession; 5. Section 14 amended (Category A firearms licence) Section 14(1)(c) of the Principal Act is amended by omitting "pump action or self-loading" and substituting "rapid fire shotgun or self-loading shotgun" 6. Section 16 amended (Category C firearms licence) Section 16(1)(c) of the Principal Act is amended by omitting "pump action" and substituting "rapid fire" *No. 23 of 1996 3

 


 

Firearms Amendment (Rapid Fire Shotguns - Community Safety) Act 2015 Act No. of Part 2 - Firearms Act 1996 Amended s. 7 7. Section 17 amended (Category D firearms licence) Section 17(1)(c) of the Principal Act is amended by omitting "pump action" and substituting "rapid fire" 8. Schedule 1 amended (Prohibited Firearms) Schedule 1 to the Principal Act is amended by omitting "pump action" and substituting "rapid fire" 4

 


 

Firearms Amendment (Rapid Fire Shotguns - Community Safety) Act 2015 Act No. of s. 9 Part 3 - Repeal of Act PART 3 - REPEAL OF ACT 9. Repeal of Act This Act is repealed on the three hundred and sixty fifth day from the day on which all of the provisions of this Act commence. 5
