PARLIAMENTARY SALARIES, SUPERANNUATION AND ALLOWANCES AMENDMENT (50% CUT IN ADDITIONAL SALARY) BILL 2009 (Brought in by Nicholas James McKim MP) A BILL FOR An Act to provide for a 50 per cent cut in the additional salary payable to the Premier, the Deputy Premier, and the Ministers of the Crown, and to also provide for a 50 per cent cut to the additional salary payable to the officers of the House of Assembly, those being the Speaker, Chairman of Committees, Leader of the Opposition, Deputy Leader of the Opposition, Leader of a Minority Party, Government Whip and the Opposition Whip. Be it enacted by His Excellency the Governor of Tasmania, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council and House of Assembly, in Parliament assembled, as follows: 1. Short Title This Act may be cited as the Parliamentary Salaries, Superannuation and Allowances Amendment (50% Cut in Additional Salary) Act 2009. 2. Commencement This Act commences on the day on which it receives the Royal Assent. 3. Principal Act In this Act, the Parliamentary Salaries, Superannuation and Allowances Act 1973 is referred to as the Principal Act. 4. Act to bind Crown No. 27 of 1973 3

 


 

This Act binds the Crown in right of Tasmania and, so far as the legislative power of Parliament permits, in all its other capacities. 5. New Section 6C inserted (Additional salary payable to the Premier, the Deputy Premier, and the Ministers of the Crown) Delete Section 6C and insert new Section 6C below: 6C. Notwithstanding any other provision of this Bill, or any decision of the Commission, the additional salary payable to a person for the time being holding an office that is specified in the first column of the following table is to be such percentage of the amount of the basic salary for the time being as is specified opposite to that office in the second column of that table, namely: SECOND COLUMN FIRST COLUMN Percentage of basic salary of Office which the additional salary is comprised % Premier 57.5 Deputy Premier 41 Minister 35 Secretary to Cabinet 15 6. New Section 7C inserted (Additional salary payable to officers of Parliament) Delete Section 7C and insert new Section 7C below: 4

 


 

7C. Notwithstanding any other provision of this Bill, or any decision of the Commission, the additional salary payable to a person for the time being holding an office that is specified in the first column of the following table shall be such percentage of the amount of the basic salary for the time being as is specified opposite to that office in the second column of that table, namely: SECOND COLUMN FIRST COLUMN Percentage of basic salary of Office which the additional salary is comprised % House of Assembly - Speaker 17.5 Chairman of 10 Committees Leader of the 35 Opposition Deputy Leader of the 17.5 Opposition Leader Minority Party 17.5 Government Whip 3 Opposition Whip 3 5
