EGG LABELLING AND SALE BILL 2013 BILL 81 OF 2013

                    CLAUSE NOTES


            Egg Labelling and Sale Bill 2013


Clause 1:     provides a short title for the Bill

Clause 2:     provides for the Act to commence by
              proclamation.

Clause 3:     defines a range of terms used within the Bill.

Clause 4:     excludes certain individuals and groups from
              the operation of the Act.

Clause 5:     provides broad definitions of the three types of
              egg productions systems.

Clause 6:     outlines the requirements for the labelling of
              egg packaging. This section is limited to eggs
              produced in Tasmania.

Clause 7:     outlines the obligations of retailers in relation
              to the display of eggs. This clause also provides
              an exemption for retail displays less than two
              metres in total length.

Clause 8:     provides that Regulations made under this Act
              can deem offences against this Act or the
              Regulations, to be infringement offences and
              therefore subject to issuance of an
              infringement notice which attracts a monetary
              penalty.

 


 

Clause 9: provides the Governor with the ability to make regulations for the purposes of this Act. This clause also specifically provides for the identification of stocking densities and for the adoption of any relevant standard, rule or code. Clause 10: assigns responsibility for the administration of the Act to the Minister for Corrections and Consumer Protection and the Department of Justice.
