(1) A person may apply to the Minister for a special exploration licence to explore for minerals in a specified region.(2) An application is to (a) be in an approved form; and(b) specify the minerals, or category of minerals, in respect of which it is made; and(c) be accompanied by a statement specifying a description of the area of land in respect of which the licence is sought; and(d) be accompanied by a fee determined by the Minister; and(e) be accompanied by a statement specifying the likely impact on the environment of activities under the licence; and(f) contain any other details the Director requires; and(g) be lodged with the Registrar.(3) The Registrar or the Director or both may require an applicant to provide further information.(4) A person may not apply for a licence in relation to an area of land (a) to which a notice published under section 161E relates; or(b) if the person holds or held a special exploration licence in relation to the area of land for the same mineral, or category of minerals, as the mineral, or category of minerals, to which the application relates.
