(1)  Subject to subsection (2) , before a prescriber issues a prescription for the supply of a monitored medicine to a person, the prescriber must take all reasonable steps to check the monitored medicines database for information in relation to the person.

Penalty:  Fine not exceeding 10 penalty units.

(2)  The regulations may prescribe circumstances in which a prescriber need not comply with subsection (1) .
