Crimes Amendment (Repeal of Section 19A) Bill 2015 Introduction Print EXPLANATORY MEMORANDUM Clause Notes Clause 1 sets out the purpose of the Bill which is to repeal section 19A of the Crimes Act 1958. Clause 2 provides for the Bill to come into operation on the day after the day on which it receives the Royal Assent. Clause 3 repeals section 19A of the Crimes Act 1958. Clause 4 sets out consequential amendments to Schedule 1 to the Sentencing Act 1991, which lists current and repealed offences relevant to the sentencing of serious offenders. The clause amends clause 2 (Violent offences) and clause 3 (Serious violent offences) of Schedule 1 to the Sentencing Act 1991 by removing references to section 19A as a current offence and adding references to section 19A as it was in force before its repeal. Clause 5 provides for the automatic repeal of this amending Act on the first anniversary of its commencement. The repeal of this Act does not affect in any way the continuing operation of the amendments made by this Act (see section 15(1) of the Interpretation of Legislation Act 1984). 581002 1 BILL LA INTRODUCTION 13/4/2015
