    The long title for the Bill for this Act was "A Bill for an Act to permit the awarding of provisional damages to persons suffering from asbestos-related conditions, to amend the Accident Compensation Act 1985 in relation to actions relating to asbestos-related conditions, to amend the Wrongs Act 1958 in relation to dependants' claims for damages arising from deaths caused by dust-related conditions and for other purposes."

The Asbestos Diseases Compensation Act 2008 was assented to on 25 November 2008 and came into operation on 26 November 2008: section 2.
