Police may exercise certain powers of sheriff

S. 166(1) amended by No. 37/2014 s. 10(Sch. item 87.7(a)).

    (1)     The sheriff, with the approval of the Chief Commissioner of Police, by instrument may authorise a police officer or a class of police officers to exercise in accordance with the regulations (if any) all or any of the powers, functions or duties of the sheriff under this Act.

    (2)     Without limiting subsection (1), a police officer authorised under subsection (1), may serve, in accordance with Part 6, a seven-day notice on a person against whom an infringement warrant has been issued.

    (3)     An authority given under subsection (1) may be subject to any conditions and limitations which are stated in the authority.
