ROAD SAFETY ACT 1986 - SECT 63

Power to enter motor vehicles

A police officer, or a protective services officer on duty at a designated place, may, for the purpose of establishing the identity of the driver of a motor vehicle or arresting a person or carrying out the provisions of section 53, 54, 55, 55A or 55BA, enter the motor vehicle using, if necessary, reasonable force, if the driver refuses or fails to obey any lawful direction given to him or her by the police officer or the protective services officer.
