A Bill for
An Act to amend the Public and Bank Holidays Act 1972 and the
Minimum Conditions of Employment Act 1993.
The Parliament of Western Australia enacts as follows:

1 Preamble
2 Whereas:
3 A. The 1st of June in 1829 was the day when the first
4 European settlers, under the command of Captain James
5 Stirling RN, Lieutenant Governor, arrived from Britain
6 to settle the Swan River Colony; and
7 B. Foundation Day, held on the first Monday of June each
8 year, is an important celebration of this event for
9 Western Australians; and
10 C. Foundation Day acknowledges our indigenous people as
11 the original inhabitants of the land and unites all who
12 have made Western Australia their home,
13 it is, 183 years later, now appropriate that Foundation Day be
14 known as Western Australia Day.
