The Parliament of Western Australia enacts as follows: page 1 Criminal Code Amendment (Criminal Damage to Places of Worship) Bill 2015 s. 1 1 1. Short title 2 This is the Criminal Code Amendment (Criminal Damage to 3 Places of Worship) Act 2015. 4 2. Commencement 5 This Act comes into operation as follows -- 6 (a) sections 1 and 2 -- on the day on which this Act 7 receives the Royal Assent; 8 (b) the rest of the Act -- on the day after that day. 9 3. Act amended 10 This Act amends The Criminal Code. 11 4. Section 444 amended 12 Delete section 444(1)(b) and insert: 13 14 (b) if the property is not destroyed or damaged by 15 fire -- 16 (i) if the offence is committed in 17 circumstances of racial aggravation -- 18 to imprisonment for 14 years; or 19 (ii) if the property destroyed or damaged is 20 a place of worship or a place associated 21 or connected with a place of worship -- 22 to imprisonment for 14 years; or 23 (iii) otherwise -- to imprisonment for 24 10 years. 25 26
